2026
expected year of commercial operation
Chance of delivery
≈98%
estimated chance this project reaches commercial operation
Under Construction projects complete ≈97% of the time on Hafrok's record. A secured offtake contract lifts this one slightly; a market with a thinner delivery record, its size and technical complexity pull a little the other way.

How Hafrok got this date
1
Starting point: the last dated milestone
Construction start in
2024. From there Hafrok adds how long similar projects (in developing offshore-wind markets) took to reach commercial operation, measured on projects that have delivered.2
Typical timing
Starting point plus the typical remaining time gives a middle estimate of
2026 Q3; the faster quarter of similar projects would be done by 2025 Q3, the slower quarter not until 2027 Q1.3
Result
Expected commercial operation
2026, likely range 2026–2027 (the middle half of outcomes for similar projects). The developer's announced date falls inside that likely range, so the announced date is adopted.4
Year-by-year chart
The bars spread that estimate across years using how similar projects actually slipped against their dates — more often late than early, which is why the bars lean right.
5
Chance of delivery — separate from timing
Start from the share of Under Construction projects that went on to complete — ≈97%, measured on Hafrok's record of delivered and abandoned projects, with an allowance held back where that record cannot yet speak (projects still unresolved, changed market conditions). Based on the measured record — all 257 construction starts with a final outcome reached operation — adjusted down for projects still mid-build and for legal-challenge risk. Then adjust for this project's own evidence — offtake, market, size, technical complexity — to ≈98%, which rates it

Revolution Wind was acquired by Ørsted as part of the USD 510 million Deepwater Wind portfolio acquisition (announced October 2018, closed November 2018). Revolution Wind was in early development at the time (~700 MW capacity, with the Deepwater Wind announcement referencing it at 600 MW, later grown to 704 MW). The USD 510 million covered the entire Deepwater Wind portfolio; no individual project allocation possible. See Block Island Wind Farm and South Fork Wind records for full context.

Ørsted divested 50% stakes in Revolution Wind and South Fork Wind (plus two undeveloped New England offshore lease areas) to Eversource Energy for a combined consideration of approximately USD 225 million. Announced February 8, 2019. The USD 225 million consideration covered all four assets and cannot be disaggregated by project; individual implied values are not calculable. Post-transaction, Revolution Wind was held 50% Ørsted / 50% Eversource. Revolution Wind and Eversource took FID in November 2023 at which time construction commenced; COD expected 2024-2025. See South Fork Wind companion record for full farmdown context. (USD 225m ~ EUR 198m @ USD/EUR 1.1351 2019-02 ECB avg.)

Eversource agreed in February 2024 to sell its combined 50% stakes in Revolution Wind and South Fork Wind to Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) for an announced price of approximately USD 1.12 billion. The transaction closed September 30, 2024. Actual adjusted gross proceeds were USD 745 million, reduced by approximately USD 375 million versus the announced price — split approximately USD 150 million due to lower capital spending and USD 225 million due to delay in Revolution Wind's commercial operation date (Revolution Wind was still under construction at closing). Revolution Wind was at FID / under-construction stage at announcement. The combined USD 745 million cannot be disaggregated between Revolution Wind and South Fork Wind; per-project implied values are not calculable. See South Fork Wind companion record for full deal context and sources. Post-closing, GIP/Skyborn holds 50% and Ørsted retains 50%.
