About
A German offshore wind company built from the offshore business of wpd, which Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) bought outright and relaunched as Skyborn after the deal closed in September 2022. GIP has itself been part of BlackRock since October 2024. Its projects run from the German North Sea and Baltic to Taiwan and the US, where it holds South Fork Wind and Revolution Wind in a joint venture with Ørsted. It describes itself as an infrastructure platform that develops, builds, owns and operates offshore wind assets, and since 2026 it has been sole owner of the operating Nordergründe farm in Germany. Its Gennaker project was financed with non-recourse loans from a group of lenders, with Stadtwerke München as a 25% equity partner.

It is a portfolio company of Global Infrastructure Partners, part of BlackRock. In September 2026 it reported 1.4 GW of offshore wind in operation and 2.1 GW under construction, and activity in 10 countries across Europe, Asia-Pacific and the Americas. In 2026 it took full control of one operating farm and moved its flagship into construction. In June it bought out the other investors in the 111 MW Nordergründe farm in Germany, going from 30% to 100%, which its CEO called fully aligned with its strategy. In September Gennaker (up to 976.5 MW, German Baltic Sea), reached financial close with a €2.1 billion non-recourse financing package from 16 commercial lenders and the European Investment Bank. Amazon (600 MW) and Uniper (100 MW) have signed power purchase agreements, Stadtwerke München holds 25%, and commercial operation is targeted by the end of 2028.
