Masdar
About
Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, known as Masdar, is jointly owned by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), Abu Dhabi National Energy Company and Mubadala Investment Company, all wholly owned by the Government of Abu Dhabi. A global clean energy investor, it has built a European portfolio of over 15.6GW across offshore wind, onshore renewables and, increasingly, energy storage. Its offshore wind is held with partners, including RWE in London Array and Dogger Bank South, Equinor in Dudgeon and Hywind Scotland, and Iberdrola in Baltic Eagle in Germany and East Anglia THREE in the UK, where each holds 50% with shared governance.
Outlook
as of 2026-10A UAE sovereign-backed clean energy company (ADNOC 24%, Mubadala 33%, TAQA 43%) with a target of 100 GW of renewable energy by 2030, restated in September 2026. It entered offshore wind through European partnerships: 49% of Baltic Eagle with Iberdrola (EUR 1.6bn, July 2023), 49% of Dogger Bank South with RWE (an £11bn joint venture, COP28, December 2023), and a €15bn strategic alliance with Iberdrola at the same COP. In July 2025 it executed the decade's largest offshore wind transaction, the €5.2bn co-investment in East Anglia THREE with Iberdrola, which is due to be fully operational by the end of 2026. The portfolio reached 65 GW by January 2026. In September 2026 Masdar signed an MoU with RWE to consider joint bids in future German offshore wind auctions (over €3 billion) and one with Luxcara on storage and offshore wind (over €5 billion), both still exploratory. It now describes its approach as disciplined growth in priority markets, but has shown no cautious signal on offshore wind while European peers retreated.
