EDF Renewables
About
The renewables arm of EDF, owned 100% by the French State since 2023, renamed from EDF Renewables to EDF power solutions in June 2025. Its French farms, awarded in 2012, were built after the Council of State dismissed appeals in 2019; Saint-Nazaire was commissioned in 2022, Fécamp in 2024, and Calvados is under construction. It shares offshore projects with partners, including Dongtai IV and V in China and the EMGL floating project in France, and is acquiring RWE's 33.33% share of Five Estuaries in the UK, announced in October 2026. In the US it took full ownership of Atlantic Shores, then reported US offshore projects halted, and in June 2026 agreed to sell its US and Canadian operations to KKR.
Outlook
as of 2026-10EDF Renewables, renamed EDF power solutions in June 2025, built the French offshore wind programme: Saint-Nazaire (480 MW, operating since 2022), Fécamp (500 MW, since 2024), the 25 MW Provence Grand Large floating farm (2025) and Calvados/Courseulles (448 MW, under construction, more than two years late with cost overruns). Its US entry through Atlantic Shores unravelled in 2025, with a EUR 934m impairment and the OREC terminated. CEO Fontana, from April 2025, pivoted the group to nuclear. EDF says US offshore wind projects have been halted; on 30 June 2026 it agreed to sell its US and Canadian operations to KKR, and closing that sale is its stated first priority for the second half of 2026. Its renewables priority is to complete projects, primarily French hydropower, with a less capital-intensive model. It is seeking to readjust the price of its Centre Manche 1 (AO4) award, where partner Maple Power wants to leave; in July 2026 Fontana said the talks were moving in the right direction. In October 2026 its UK arm bought RWE's 33.33% of the consented Five Estuaries project (up to 1,080 MW) and will lead its development.

EDF (company report) source → - EDF 2026 half-year results presentation, Q&A
“There are discussions that are moving in the right direction. The aim is to identify extraordinary changes in circumstances that are recognized. And these discussions are continuing. They are of good quality.”
Bernard Fontana, Chairman and CEO of EDF Group source → - EDF 2026 half-year results presentation, Q&A
“The number one objective is to complete the financial closing of the sale of our renewable assets in North America, which was signed on June 30th, 2026. So, I think that's our priority.”
Claude Laruelle, Chief Finance and Impact Officer, EDF source → - EDF Universal Registration Document 2025
“The Group's priority is to successfully complete renewable projects, primarily hydropower in France, and to pursue the development of renewable energy with a less capital-intensive business model and greater selectivity in investments.”
EDF (company report) source → - EDF Universal Registration Document 2025
“In the United States, following regulatory and policy changes introduced by the US administration, offshore wind power projects have been halted and development efforts are currently focused on solar power, onshore wind power and energy storage projects”

“Safety, security and health are the Group's priorities, to provide our customers with competitive, sovereign, low-carbon electricity.”
Bernard Fontana, Chairman and CEO of EDF Group source → - EDF 2025 annual results webcast, Q&A
“The model at the time consisted of setting prices 8 years in advance and the entire industry was convinced that costs would fall. Except that Covid happened, the war in Ukraine, the significant increase in costs, a scarcity of ships.”
Bernard Fontana, Chairman and CEO of EDF Group source → - Reuters interview — EDF considers US renewables sale
EDF is considering selling anywhere from 50 to 100 percent of its US renewable energy portfolio to raise funds for the construction of six additional nuclear reactors in France.
Hafrok summary source → - Atlantic Shores 1 OREC termination request
Atlantic Shores 1 is no longer viable upon the terms and conditions set forth in the OREC Order. Global inflation and increased demand for offshore wind materials have made the project much more costly than it was when the OREC Order was first approved in 2021. The Presidential Wind Memorandum and subsequent actions directly impacted project feasibility.
Hafrok summary source → - Bloomberg reporting — EDF reviewing renewables projects
EDF is launching a broad review of its clean-power developments to avoid a repeat of the delays and budget overruns recently seen at the Courseulles-sur-Mer wind farm off France's northwest coast. EDF may adopt a more cautious approach to renewable-energy projects after encountering construction snags and cost overruns for wind-farm developments.
Hafrok summary source → - EDF 2024 Annual Results
EDF adopted the "Ambitions 2035" corporate plan with four pillars — supporting customers in reducing their carbon footprint, producing more low-carbon electricity, developing networks for the energy transition, and developing flexibility solutions. Wind and solar output increased 6.7% to 28.5 TWh, with the portfolio reaching 114 GW gross. However, EDF recorded a EUR 934 million impairment on the Atlantic Shores offshore wind project in the United States following unfavourable changes in the political situation, Shell's withdrawal from the joint venture, and New Jersey's cancellation of the tender.
Hafrok summary source → - Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind impairment response
“EDF Renewables believes Atlantic Shores' projects can contribute to an 'all-of-the-above' American energy dominance strategy. The projects are poised to provide urgently needed energy and jobs to the New Jersey economy and beyond within the American offshore energy industry. We maintain the belief that the Atlantic Shores' projects will be important contributors to New Jersey coastal economy, and the broader US offshore supply chain, while also supplying essential power necessary for New Jersey's growth.”
EDF Renewables spokesperson source → - Fécamp offshore wind farm inauguration
“We are very proud to inaugurate the first offshore wind farm in Normandy, less than two years after the commissioning of the Saint-Nazaire wind farm in Loire-Atlantique. This new low-carbon electricity production facility would not have been possible without close, ongoing dialogue with elected representatives and local authorities, environmental associations, fishermen, economic players and local residents.”
Luc Rémont, Chairman and CEO of EDF Group source → - EDF 2023 Half-Year Results
“The first half of 2023 marks the company's return to good operational performance in a favourable context of price, after a year 2022 impacted by industrial difficulties and unfavourable effects of an exceptional regulation.”
Luc Rémont, Chairman and CEO of EDF Group source → - Centre Manche 1 (AO4) offshore wind tender award
“We welcome the decision of the Ministry of Energy Transition, which confirms the quality of the work carried out by EDF Renewables and Maple Power. We are pleased to continue our trustful collaboration with the Normandy region in support of the energy transition. The Normandy offshore wind farm is fully in line with the EDF group's strategy. It will contribute to achieving Europe and France's objectives for carbon neutrality by 2050.”
