Brookfield
About
Brookfield's offshore wind positions are reported by Brookfield Renewable Partners, a Bermuda limited partnership run from Toronto, in which Brookfield and related parties hold about 47% of the economic interest and keep control. Its business is built on hydroelectric, onshore wind, solar, storage and distributed generation; its annual report lists offshore wind in Europe among other investments. In the UK it owns, with partners, 12.45% of four operating Ørsted farms (Hornsea 1, Hornsea 2, Walney Extension and Burbo Bank Extension), 3% net to itself, and Ørsted runs their operation and maintenance. In Poland it holds, with institutional partners, 32% of Polenergia (8% net), whose Baltyk II and Baltyk III farms took a final investment decision in May 2025 with a joint venture partner. Offshore wind is therefore a minority position, held alongside partners, in a portfolio built mainly on other technologies.
Outlook
as of 2026-10The world's largest publicly listed pure-play renewable power platform, and conspicuously absent from offshore wind until late 2024. CEO Connor Teskey was explicit: Brookfield "quite likes" the technology but dislikes the "basis risk" of committing billions upfront to projects years from completion. The entry came in Q4 2024, when distressed developers created de-risked entry points: Brookfield acquired 12.45% of four operating Ørsted UK farms (Hornsea 1 and 2, Walney Extension and Burbo Bank Extension, 3.5 GW combined) at a $2.3bn enterprise value, secured by long-term CfDs with about 90% of costs fixed. In 2025 it executed EUR 6.3bn of project financing for Polenergia and Equinor's Baltyk 2 and 3 in Poland. It has no US offshore exposure. The strategy is to buy operating assets and finance selected developments, not to take greenfield development risk.

“We also have other investments, including cogeneration, storage, nuclear services businesses, biomass power generation in South America and offshore wind generation in Europe.”

“Europe, in particular, is increasingly more constructive from an offshore wind perspective. And we are evaluating opportunities in the space there. That being said, as with everything, we will compare the investment profile and the risk return we see in those opportunities versus what we see elsewhere in the portfolio.”

“We love the technology. It's large, it's fast growing, it's mature and quite frankly because of the differentiated load pattern, it can provide to onshore wind and onshore solar. It is actually critical to many power markets around the world. We obviously have zero exposure to U.S. offshore.”

“We see far more attractive opportunities in that asset class today than probably at any point in the last five or six years. Therefore, we hope there will be more to come.”

“We are pleased to be partnering with Orsted to invest in four high-quality assets that are critical to supplying the U.K. with renewable power. This is Brookfield's first investment in U.K. offshore wind, which will continue to be a critical part of the energy mix.”

“On offshore, we've been very cautious in that space with only a modest exposure. With some of the settling out that has happened in both those markets, I would certainly say that we are probably closer to entry points that we view as attractive today than we have been at points in the past.”

“We quite like offshore. We think it's a mature technology. It's a large-scale technology. Our lack of exposure to offshore traditionally is not a result of the technology, but rather the investment profile. You had to invest significant amounts of capital for the right to build out a project in three or four or five or six years when you didn't know the environment. That is precisely the basis risk that we try to be very, very disciplined about and remove.”
Connor Teskey, CEO, Brookfield Renewable Partners source → - Brookfield Renewable Partners Q1 2022 Earnings Call
“We're thrilled to be partnered with a best-in-class global offshore wind builder and operator. We're seeing more and more of the largest offshore wind markets around the world pursue subsidy-free auctions. The winners in those auctions are going to be the premier global operators, not necessarily low cost of capital financial bidders.”
